Job Description:
Senior or Staff Systems V&V Engineer
Zoox is on an ambitious journey to develop and safely deploy a full-stack autonomous mobility solution for cities. We are seeking a Senior or Staff Systems V&V Engineer that will help Zoox’s System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team to apply sound systems and verification engineering to fail-safe and fail-operational behaviors to realize this mission. You will work with perception, firmware, vehicle controls, and planning engineers to contribute to a wide range of projects that will help ensure the success of Zoox autonomous systems. You are responsible for the verification and validation strategy, test execution and reporting, and ensuring the robotaxi meets the end-to-end safety and fail-operational requirements in line with the goals of Zoox milestones.
In this role you will:
- Understand and review vehicle response strategies for fault conditions from all potential sources.
- Develop and manage test planning and execution for fail-operational responses.
- Lead cross-functional technical projects, including new test methodology development and collaboration with Software, Firmware, HIL Test, and Operations teams.
- Develop metrics and analyze performance of vehicle fail-operational responses to ensure safety and stability goals have been achieved.
- Lead the development of risk analysis models to quantify behavioral risk when testing fails.
- Track and report test campaign results to demonstrate feature readiness during safety clearance for each Zoox milestone.
Qualifications
- MS or higher degree in a technical field, such as Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
- 7+ years of hands-on systems integration and validation, (bench testing, simulation testing, structured testing, and end-to-end product validation) with a focus on fault protection and delivering complex systems to production.
- Proficient in Python for data analysis.
- Basic proficiency with probability and statistics.
- Data Analysis and Metrics: Lead data collection and analysis campaigns, defining and validating system performance metrics, driving automation initiatives for analysis and process optimization.
Bonus Qualifications
- Risk and Reliability: Experience with quantitative risk analysis or statistical reliability analysis.
- Fault Protection: Fault protection system design and validation.
- Functional Safety Standards: Familiarity with ISO 26262, ARP 4754, ARP 4761, or IEC 51511.
