Job Description:

Senior Engineer with Management Experience

Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are the rare unicorn that has grown fast and profitably. We received $515m in funding and are executing a multi-$B expansion plan for one of the greenest forms of tech manufacturing: converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy.

We are searching for a Senior Engineer with Management Experience to take responsibility for leading and mentoring a team of mechanical engineers to specify, build, and deliver ambitious automation projects in a high-tech manufacturing environment. You would be working across multiple engineering disciplines with an experienced team of mechanical, electrical, equipment, materials engineers, and scientists. You will be responsible for the whole project, pulling in the talents of others when needed. This position will primarily operate out of our Fremont location, but with occasional visits to our SSF office.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a group of Mechanical Engineers by defining and managing project scopes, tracking progress, and ensuring goal attainment. Able to mentor and lead engineers, fostering problem-solving and productivity.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of tooling, from initial design and engineering through building, testing, and optimization.
  • Manage the entire vendor process, including specification, selection, quotation, and project transfer to production, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Select and integrate off-the-shelf hardware for process control, product quality, and automated manufacturing tasks.
  • Work with the international teams to enhance existing equipment designs and develop comprehensive assembly procedures and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of overall engineering experience, including 2+ years managing direct reports.
  • 10+ years of full-time SolidWorks expertise, Proficiency in FEA (Ansys), PLC Ladder Logic, and deep knowledge of UHV vacuum manufacturing equipment and components.
  • Extensive experience with robots, robotic integration, laser systems, high-precision linear stages, and high-volume manufacturing requirements.
  • Proven skills in machine (mill/lathe) soldering, electrical assembly, and independent problem-solving within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven skills in managing projects and overseeing suppliers/subcontractors from end-to-end.
